Canadian Clinical Drug Data Set (CCDD) Now Available in the Terminology Server

We are pleased to announce that the Canadian Clinical Drug Data Set (CCDD) is now accessible in the beta version of our newly launched Terminology Server. This marks a significant milestone as we continue to enhance and expand the server's content since its initial release in July 2024.

The CCDD provides codes for identification and a consistent approach to naming of medications and medical devices in Canada. It has been designed and developed to reflect current clinical practice and safety advice and is freely available for use in digital health solutions and design applications.

What's Included in This Content Launch:

The CCDD content has been modeled in Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and is now accessible through the Terminology Server. This content launch includes the latest September 2024 CCDD update, along with some historical data. Supporting documentation, including release notes, editorial guidelines, and technical specifications, is available on InfoScribe in both English and French. This comprehensive package is designed to help healthcare organizations, vendors, and clinicians seamlessly integrate drug-related information into their healthcare systems.

To further enhance value for stakeholders, the CCDD content has also been enriched with select Health Canada Drug Product Database (DPD) data, including ATC codes, and biosimilar and pediatric flags. Additional content is in development, with updates to follow as we progress.

Migration and Transition Support:

To ensure a smooth transition, the CCDD will remain accessible through the Terminology Gateway until the full migration to the Terminology Server is complete. We will maintain the Gateway throughout this period, ensuring uninterrupted access. Detailed migration timelines and retirement plans for the Gateway will be communicated in the coming months.

Support Resources for Accessing CCDD in the Terminology Server:

Our dedicated Terminology Server support page offers training resources, including user guides and instructional videos, to help users navigate the new system and maximize the benefits of accessing CCDD content via the Terminology Server.

Our FAQ section has also been updated with additional information on the Terminology Server’s functionalities and content updates. We encourage you to review these materials to learn more about how these features can support your work.
