HL7 Membership

HL7 Affiliate | Canada

For Canadians interested in HL7 Membership, Infoway co-ordinates the Affiliate Agreement with HL7 International. Canadians can register for HL7 Canada Affiliate Membership on InfoCentral or for HL7 International Access on the HL7.org website. HL7 International Membership is NOT required for viewing and/or downloading HL7 content from InfoCentral.

HL7 Canada Affiliate or HL7 International access is required: 

  • for all Canadian implementers incorporating HL7 materials in a product (other than HL7® FHIR® materials which are release under a Creative Commons license)
  • to co-chair any of the HL7 International Workgroups
  • for discounts on HL7 conferences, education and certification
  • to take advantage of the membership discount provided by being a member of HL7 Canada, contact Canada Health Infoway using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.  You will then be provided with a code to use when registering.

Infoway’s HL7 Affiliate Agreement stipulates that we can only provide access to HL7 International Material to members that reside in Canada, with the following exceptions noted below: 

  • Those living outside of Canada but working full time for a Canadian organization that has HL7 International Access with Infoway; or
  • Those with business in Canada who are also HL7 International organizational members in good standing.

If you qualify for access to HL7 International material through Infoway under the exceptions outlined above, we kindly ask that you provide this information via email for our records so we can help facilitate your access.

Access is for one year, April 1 - March 31, renewable annually.

Standards Access

To access licensed international and national health information standards (e.g. SNOMED CT), simply login to your Infoway Account and reconfirm acceptance of the Terms of Use and License Agreements annually. Fees are only collected for access and use of HL7 International materials.

All SNOMED CT, LOINC and Infoway software tools are available at no cost to users with an active Infoway account. Information provided during Infoway Account registration may be used to respect our contractual commitments with licensors such as HL7 International and SNOMED International, or to request feedback on artifacts downloaded via Terminology Gateway or Terminology API. Email us to opt out from receiving feedback emails of terminology downloads from the maintaining organization.
