About

Welcome to the Patient Summary Working Group

The purpose of this working group is to collaborate on the various aspects of creating, distributing and consuming a health records summary for a patient.

Part of this work will include a definition of what a meaningful health summary should be in the Canadian context, what elements it should include, the standards to be used in its definition and the technical interoperability considerations to support its life cycle.

There are a number of international initiatives that deal with summaries (e.g. IPS). This working group will analyze alignment of those specifications to the expected clinical scenarios that are expected in the Canadian context.

The pan-Canadian interoperability specificaitons and information about testing events (i.e., the Projectathon) can be found on InfoScribe. Notifications about upcoming events will be served through the Forums in this working group.

Welcome once again, please check out the group calendar for upcoming events and the Forum feeds for ongoing conversations.

Ontario Health will be hosting an Open Review webinar on March 26, 2026, at 12:00-1:00 pm (EST) to provide details on the Ontario Integrated Assessment Record (IAR) HL7® FHIR® Implementation Guide v1.0.0-ballot, explain the process of providing coordinated comments during the Open Review period, and answer questions. The Integrated Assessment Record (IAR) tool provides a central repository for clinical assessment data collected from multiple community care sectors. It allows authorized Health Service Providers (HSPs) within the circle of care to upload and view a client’s assessment information in a secure and timely manner. The IAR enables collaborative care planning as well as enhanced communication between providers, for the ultimate goal of promoting high quality care for clients in the community. This Open Review webinar offers valuable insights for individuals and/or organizations involved in conducting or supporting IAR Assessments, including but not limited to hospitals, home care and community agencies, mental health and addictions services, Case Management System vendors, and EMR vendors. The presentation will provide an overview of the IAR Implementation Guide, including framework for submitting completed assessment forms to IAR’s central repository, business context, use cases, and business rules, and conformance requirements for IAR submissions Key Dates: Open Review Webinar – March 26, 2026 Open Review Period – March 27 to April 30, 2026 Follow link to register: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/0078217c-e347-4afc-b6cc-21d7546e3c74@4ef96c5c-d83f-466b-a478-816a5bb4af62 Please share this information with your team and colleagues to encourage participation in this important process.
