September 2024 pCLOCD Release is now Available

The latest pan-Canadian LOINC Observation Code Database (pCLOCD) release R06.21.00_2.78 is now available for review and implementation on both the Infoway Terminology Gateway and our new FHIR Terminology Server. This is part of our commitment to maintaining both systems until the Gateway is decommissioned. Content includes 25 new concepts requested by Canadian stakeholders to support laboratory and clinical data interoperability, 563 edits to existing LOINC concepts, and 521 edits to Canadian French Translation of LOINC concepts.

Updates and Changes to pCLOCD:

As of the September 2024 release, we are introducing changes to align with LOINC.

Notably, the Microsoft Access version of pCLOCD will no longer be available, following LOINC's decision to discontinue support for this format. Rest assured, pCLOCD content will continue to be available in all other formats you are familiar with, and we are here to assist with any questions or adjustments to ensure a smooth transition.

Additionally, we have made structural updates to the pCLOCD Nomenclature table, increasing the version number to R06.21.00_2.78 . This update includes nine new columns that have been added to the table, each representing LOINC part codes for key attributes in both LOINC and pCLOCD . These LOINC part codes were introduced into pCLOCD as part of the normalization process for FHIR representation. These columns include:

  • LN COMPONENT Part#
  • LN PROPERTY Part#
  • LN TIME_ASPCT Part#
  • LN SYSTEM Part#
  • LN SCALE_TYP Part#
  • LN METHOD_TYP Part#
  • LN CLASS Part#
  • PC Sub-Class Part#
  • PanCan COMPONENT Part#

These additions improve the consistency and interoperability of pCLOCD, particularly in its alignment with FHIR-based systems. This structural enhancement marks an important step toward improving the usability and flexibility of the standard.
