The following announcement was issued by MITA yesterday:
"Today we announced the signing of the new agreement for the use of SNOMED CT codes in the DICOM Standard and its implementations. See the summary in the Press Release posted in
dicom.nema.org/Partnerships/IHTSDO/
A great thank you goes to Harry Solomon, DICOM Standards Committee (DSC) Co-Chair for spearheading the negotiations and to David Clunie for the tremendous work on sorting out the details of the Codes.
Harry’s summary is in the news release: “The importance of imaging to a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic tasks makes standard terminology critical to integrated workflows. The use of SNOMED CT in DICOM allows clinicians using imaging devices and software to identify the anatomy and findings of interest using globally consistent terminology.”
The details of the agreement and the list of codes are also posted in the link above.
Additionally, Working Group 6 is currently working on relevant CPs, e.g. CP-1495
See the WG-06 minutes for future updates."
This is very good news for the DICOM community because it removes previous licensing roadblocks from using SNOMED CT in Diagnostic Imaging.
