Elaine

Here in Nova Scotia we have always had Radiologists have access to PACS remotely but not full reporting capabilities until recently ,. So far It is working well I will attempt to answer your questions below and I have attached the Policy document we have in place in one of our zones.

• How is their hardware set up? Setup by the facility PACS admins
o Purchased by ‘x’? The Radiologists sign an agreement to purchase the workstation it is then ordered by the Department and delivered to the Dept for setup. The Radiologists pays the dept for the system it is then delivered and setup at their home .
o Installed by ‘x? Facility PACS Admins cost is included in the purchase price ( we allow for 3 Hr )
• How is their equipment & software maintained? E.g., RAD brings equipment to hospital site for maintenance? Hosp staff (who?) go to RADs home to perform maintenance support? The computer is brought to the Hospital for support after the initial setup if service required.
• Do you have an agreement template that can be shared? See attached Policy

Hi Elaine,

In Manitoba, the DI program provides on-call laptops to all radiologists. The laptops are set up by Manitoba eHealth desktop with VPN access and required applications.

For maintenance/issue resolution, the radiologist must bring the laptop to the hospital during regular business hours. If a laptop is not working when needed to provide on call services, the radiologist must go on site to work at a regular workstation.

Our agreement template is attached.

Thanks.

Hi Elaine:

Nice to know other jurisdictions have the same struggles we do! 

In Alberta, Radiologists reporting from home are responsible for their own hardware; we only provide the applications and VPN tools to facilitate the ability to report from home. We don’t go to their homes to support them; in rare instances we ask them to bring their home computer to a hospital for our PACS team to look at/troubleshoot.

Currently we don’t have any formal agreements/templates that I’m aware of…

Hello PACS contacts,

I am using the ‘former’ DI JIG distro list to pose a question to those of you who have Radiologists working from home.
• How is their hardware set up?
o Purchased by ‘x’?
o Installed by ‘x?
• How is their equipment & software maintained? E.g., RAD brings equipment to hospital site for maintenance? Hosp staff (who?) go to RADs home to perform maintenance support?
• Do you have an agreement template that can be shared?

Thank you in advance,
