Hello - we (CIHI) reviewed Alberta's draft patient summary data dictionary and have a comments to share:
• Laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and vaccine data elements aren't being collected in the extract. Otherwise, the rest of the data
elements compares to the core set in the Primary Health Care EMR Minimum Data Set (PHC EMR MDS).
• There is no reference to code systems, though in some cases we noted sample values were provided (mainly pertaining to dates or
identifiers)
• Also note that there is a comment for data element B8 Provider_Expertise, which does not appear to be relevant (likely meant to be
in the row below for problem list), however I raise this because it refers to the CIHI Clinician Friendly Pick-Lists which are no longer
available (retired in 2019/2020).

Thanks very much for the opportunity to provide feedback.
Jacqueline

Alberta has published a DRAFT project data dictionary (PDD), link provided below, with the elements that they are looking to collect, in an EMR-submitted patient summary.

Alberta is welcoming feedback from this working group as input into further refinements. As feedback is collected and the PDD refined, they will start reviewing with their EMR vendors as well as clinicians. As part of that effort, they will identify cross-references between elements on the patient summary, and corresponding elements they already collect from EMRs through other services such as CII encounter submissions. Where they are collecting existing elements, they have some capability to analyze the quality and consistency of the existing data, to help inform potential changes or improvements for optimizing patient summary data collection.
