Hi IHE Community Members,

On behalf of the Joint Initiative Council (JIC) , I am pleased to advise you of a discussion paper released today entitled “The Future of IPS as a Global Public Good”. This paper can be found on the JIC website here .

You and your organization have been identified as part of the group of key international stakeholders having a keen interest in ensuring that the International Patient Summary (IPS) is developed, maintained, and used in the most effective manner so as to improve the health of the populations that we serve.

The JIC is a collaboration of 13 international standards development organizations (SDOs) that focus their efforts on collaborating to ensure interoperable digital health. The JIC and its SDOs have been actively working together for nearly a decade on the development of a suite of standards designed to work together to support the implementation and use of the International Patient Summary. Through our work, it is clear that the stewardship of the IPS suite of standards should involve organizations beyond the SDO’s, given many are involved in the promotion, education and implementation of IPS across the globe.

As a result, we have undertaken this discussion paper to capture our consolidated learnings (from an SDO perspective), and make these available to the broader community in the hopes that it will motivate additional discussion, gather much broader input, and result in a set of actions that will lead to an appropriate mechanism to ensure that we are all working together in this highly collaborative international initiative.

We ask that you consider the issues raised in this discussion paper, and provide your feedback as to how you may wish to participate going forward using this form .

We hope that a meeting can be organized in the next few months to bring together this broad stakeholder community to consider the path forward for IPS.

We look forward to your response.

Best wishes,
