Today, we are excited to announce a major milestone in advancing interoperability in Canada. Our FHIR-capable Terminology Server is now fully integrated into HL7 International’s FHIR tooling ecosystem, providing a more seamless and efficient way for standards specialists, vendors, and conformance testers to use Infoway-hosted terminology.
With this integration, users can now directly access Infoway-hosted code systems and value sets for Implementation Guides (IGs) and validation processes, which ensures consistent, accurate terminology use while reducing effort and errors.
Updates to Canadian terminologies, like SNOMED CT CA, will now be instantly available in the HL7 tooling ecosystem as soon as they’re published. This means no more delays or manual interventions to align with the latest standards—everything stays up to date automatically.
For events like the IHE North America Connectathon Week or the Infoway-hosted Pan-Canadian Projectathon, conformance testing is now easier than ever. Testers can validate directly against Infoway-hosted terminologies, making the process quicker and more efficient.
How to Get Started
To get started, users will need an API key from Infoway, which makes configuring HL7 tools quick and easy. For more detailed instructions, please refer to HL7’s documentation.
Supported Versions
To leverage these capabilities, ensure you are using:
- HL7 IG Publisher version 1.8.1 or later
- HL7 Validator version 6.5.0 or later
Note: Since this is a new configuration in the Infoway server and a recently introduced capability in the HL7 tooling, some adjustments may still be needed as we optimize. We welcome your feedback as we work to improve this functionality.
A Step Forward for Digital Health
This integration highlights Infoway and HL7's dedication to innovation and alignment with international standards. By becoming the third country in the world to adopt this model, Canada is taking an exciting step forward in digital health. It not only simplifies interoperability but also showcases how we’re advancing local innovation while staying connected to global best practices.
This milestone also reflects a collaborative effort from multiple teams. Special thanks to:
