A new report from Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Unnecessary Care in Canada, highlights some of the work conducted by the ImagineNation Data Impact Challenge teams and how the answers they provided can help inform unnecessary care in Canada.
In 2015, ImagineNation Challenges launched the Data Impact Challenge II to source answers to important health care questions from authorized data users and existing data. Working closely with CWC and CIHI, a number of questions were posed for registered teams to answer, including four questions relating to CWC recommendations. Teams from across Canada provided findings for the CWC questions.
As a whole, the report estimates the degree of potentially unnecessary, and sometimes harmful, tests and procedures across Canada for eight selected campaign recommendations. The report also identifies factors that might help reduce unnecessary care.
