SNOMED International is pleased to announce the publication of two new nursing reference sets (refsets) to support nursing care, enable effective decision-making and inform nursing education and health policy. The refsets are the result of work done by the Nursing Refsets Clinical Project Group who drew their membership from the SNOMED International Nursing Clinical Reference Group.

The Nursing Activities refset includes concepts defined as activity intended directly or indirectly to improve or maintain a health state, such as the collection of a blood pressure measurement as completed by a qualified nurse including the healthcare activity elements of taking, documenting and evaluation.

The Nursing Health Issues refset includes concept representations of an issue related to the health of a subject of care as identified by one or more healthcare actors, such as loss of weight, a heart attack, a drug addiction, an injury, dermatitis

The content of the refsets can be viewed and browsed from the SNOMED International Browser under the RefSets tab. (browser.ihtsdotools.org)

The refsets and their release notes are available for implementation in RF2 format by contacting us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
