Looking back on Digital Health in 2023, I want to highlight an important report that may have flown beneath the radar.

This past fall, the Alberta Virtual Care Coordinating Body released a report entitled Interoperability Saves Lives.

The document highlights that the current state of health data interoperability poses risks to the safety of patients (Canadians), and recommends that health data interoperability receive legislative support, and that we move away from a custodian-centric model.

It's a powerful report, and will hopefully continue the momentum on our national interoperability journey.
