SmokingStatus

.status
• CAB has MS flag; IPS does not
• For base R4, .status is 1..1 and a modifier element, so feeling is that MS flag in CAB feels unnecessary
• Plan to relax MS flag in CAB

.code
• Plan to rename our profile to clarify that the purpose of this is fixed to ‘tobacco smoking’ as opposed to smoking in general (vape, marijuana, etc)
• Documented discussion for now

.issued
• CAB placed MS flag and 1..1 constraints on this one, IPS has no MS flag and it’s just 0..1
• Will engage communities on whether or not it makes sense to relax in CAB; what would clinical implementations find more value for capturing dates/times for smoking status observations (effective vs issued)

.value
• Plan is to update link for valueset binding to point to either LOINC (IPS) or SNOMED (US Core) value set
• Discussion Item for Community: Need to decide which value set to point to: SNOMED or LOINC
• LOINC Codes: hl7.org/fhir/uv/ips/ValueSet-current-smoking-status-uv-ips.html
• SNOMED Codes: www.hl7.org/fhir/us/core/ValueSet-us-core-observation-smokingstatus.html

Plan is to resume the discussion on .value next session, & continue to work through the SmokingStatus Profiles

Hi all!

We'll be continuing with our DDR comparing the CA Baseline Profiles to those from the IPS FHIR Guide.

1. We'll start with looking at Observation (Smoking Status) Profile

2. Will revisit the open discussion items from the general Observation Profile from last session; hopefully the review of Smoking Status as a derived Profile will provide helpful support to the open discussion items.

3. Move to the Lab Results derivation of the Observation Profile.

Thank you!
