map-pin SMART on FHIR - CDS Hooks workstream

The main benefit to defining a Canadian SMART apps repository would be if we had some sort of a 'trust' mechanism where any app that met the requirements set by the registry would automatically be deemed a 'trusted' app available to be used against jurisdictional and Canadian EMR/EHR/HIS solutions. It would be pretty awesome if we could get the relevant stakeholders to agree on what those criteria were and come up with a business model to maintain such a repository, but it's not a small task.

I suppose we could have a registry of SMART apps that happen to support access using the Canadian baseline profiles. That wouldn't be so much a need as a "nice to have".

In terms of CDS Hooks endpoints, the CDS Hooks spec already defines a set of hooks. I'm not sure there's really a use-case for any Canadian-specific ones?

These are actually my questions if we need a single (Canadian) SMART apps repository, some predefined CDS Hooks end-points and some recommendations similar to IHE profiles (e.g., mRFD).

The base international project is doing a fair bit of standardizing. What additional harmonization did you have in mind?

Is this working group still alive?

With new US FAST (FHIR at Scale) initiative, HIAL in mind and number of SMART projects popping up, do we need and is that possible/feasible to harmonize SMART/CDS Hooks protocols to be used similarly across different implementations?

Hi Everyone,

The SMART on FHIR work stream is going to take a break in August and will resume in September. In August we're going to develop the work plan that we'll review in September. If you have topics that you'd like to see on the plan please share them in the forum. The topics we have to date are:

1) Getting source system vendors (e.g. HIS, EMR, etc.) to develop SMART on FHIR APIs
2) FHIRCast Overview and Demo
3) SMART on FHIR list of Canadian projects

As a reminder, if you have any great presentations related to SMART on FHIR - from executive overviews to technical deep dives - please share them here:

Thanks,

Gavin

Hey everyone,

In line with our decision last Friday, I have updated the calendar and zoom meeting for SMART Friday. You may want to go and download the new calendar item into your own to have them up to date.
