Hello,

Here is a briefing note from SNOMED International on the plans for inactivation of concepts that reference a disorder with or without “complication” without specifying the nature of the complication. The majority of concepts being considered for inactivation originated from ICD-9 and because of the often difficult nature of the classification-derived concepts, i.e. vagueness of meaning, inability or difficulty in sufficiently defining them, limited direct clinical utility, and struggle to appropriately assign subtypes, inactivation removes ambiguity and avoids inconsistent use of this content.

SNOMED International would like to solicit usage data from the community of practice to determine the impact of inactivation.

Please see the attached briefing note for further details.

Comments on this plan should be provided via this forum by April 19, 2024.
