Hi and thank you for your question. I'll provide some information here and Elizabeth Keller, the Task Group lead for the data set, may add further as needed.
The PSSS data set was first sourced from work done by the Trillium Bridge project (a feasibility study / project for the EU/US electronic exchange of patient summaries) and by the HL7 International Patient Summary project, which assessed the HL7 C-CDA Continuity of Care Document (CCD) specification and the epSOS PS IG data set specification cited in the EU PS Guideline. We also used the 2013 work of the EU - “GUIDELINES ON MINIMUM/ NON EXHAUSTIVE PATIENT SUMMARY DATA SET FOR ELECTRONIC EXCHANGE.
So the data set initially used was a combination of US and European work. This was followed by an extensive review, analysis and updating of those data set elements by Canadian, Australian, US and UK clinicians and data experts, along with our global SDO partners, as part of our PSSS task group work. The resulting PSSS data set and the associated use case were developed to be broadly applicable and adaptable.
Your further feedback on adapting and using this data set and associated set standards in Canada and also any patient summary implementation experiences, would all be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your question.

Hi,
When I look at the slide deck, Patient Summary Data Set seems to be based on European Guidelines. How adaptable is this to the Canadian reality?

Don, Elizabeth and Michael,
Thanks for the great presentation yesterday and for posting the slides to the forum (infocentral.infoway-inforoute.ca/en/resources/docs/iso/2494-patient-summary-standards-set-webinar-presentation-march-22-2018).
It was great to see so much interest in Canada on this important work. There were approximately 90 participants on the call, so you have definitely hit on a hot topic of interest.
It was great to hear from jurisdictions like Alberta that they will be reach out soon to connect with others of this work. What a great opportunity to use standards in a standardized approach.
For anyone that wasn't on the call yesterday, please do take a look at the great materials shared.
Don, Elizabeth and Michael welcome your feedback on the patient summary standards.
Thank you.
Regards,
Andrea

Webinar "Patient Summary Standards Set – A new, free resource for enabling interoperable patient data sharing" – March 22nd 12:00-1:00pm ET was created by Sari Schapira
The ISO community will be hosting a Webinar on "Patient Summary Standards Set – A new, free resource for enabling interoperable patient data sharing" – March 22nd 12:00-1:00pm ET.
Clinicians, implementers, software developers, digital health experts and standards governors will gain insight into a new resource for identifying, assessing and choosing the standards, artefacts and profiles most suited to satisfying particular requirements. This inaugural standards set guidance document, published by the JIC collaborative of 8 Standards Development Organizations (SDO’s), provides a coherent collection of standards and standards artefacts that support a specific use case, that of Patient Summary, a priority internationally and across Canada. We will provide the essential highlights of the use case, the standards selection rationale, the interoperability based tables of standards identified, the conformity assessment framework and some early implementation information. And we will be excited to hear from Webinar participants on implementation lessons starting to emerge from across Canada, as patient summary standards are established in real world data sharing systems.
Presenters:
• Elizabeth Keller, OntarioMD VP, Digital Health Canada Board Member and Treasurer, Vice-Chair ISO/TC215 Standards Mirror Committee
• Don Newsham, Chair ISO/TC215 Standards Mirror Committee and Head of Delegation
• Michael Nusbaum, President, MH Nusbaum & Associates Ltd
For more details and to add the meeting to your calendar, please see our event post .
Cheers, Sari
