Hi all,

As previously communicated, the Terminology Gateway will be partially retired on April 30, 2025. After this date, all core terminology resources, including SNOMED CT CA, pCLOCD, CCDD and ValueSets, will be accessible exclusively through our newly upgraded FHIR Terminology Server . PrescribeIT® content will remain on the Terminology Gateway. Any new requests for ValueSets, updates, or changes (excluding PrescribeIT®) will be processed through the new FHIR Terminology Server.

Since its launch, the Terminology Gateway has provided a trusted way to browse, download, and implement standardized terminologies across Canada, helping to improve interoperability and consistency. Building on this success, our new cloud-based FHIR Terminology Server delivers enhanced scalability, security, and reliability and is designed to be the central hub for managing and distributing high-quality international and pan-Canadian terminologies and ValueSets, ultimately supporting data standardization and interoperability.

Action Required: Update Your Terminology Gateway Endpoints
  • To avoid disruptions to your workflow, please download any necessary content from the Terminology Gateway before April 30th.

  • While we are implementing backend changes to automatically redirect ValueSet canonical and defining URLs, we strongly recommend that you directly update your system endpoints as well as FHIR Implementation Guides/ Interoperability Specifications referencing a Terminology Gateway URL (e.g. any application system links, documentation, user guides, or websites, etc. that reference the Terminology Gateway, such as the Subset Defining URL (e.g. tgateway.infoway-inforoute.ca/vs/XX)).

For detailed information on the migration timeline and new features on the FHIR Terminology Server, please check out our news article: FHIR Terminology Server: Upgrades & Migration from Terminology Gateway .
