It is very interesting how the incorporation of the provincial drug information into the pharmacy system increases reported use so much (83% vs 12%). Having to open web-browser to view the information seems to be a big barrier.

Dear Community Members,

Infoway recently commissioned the 2016 National Survey of Canadian Pharmacists: Use of Digital Health Technologies in Practice and we invite you to review the results deck, which is now available.

The survey reveals that digital tools are improving community pharmacy practice and opportunity exists to advance adoption, including e-prescribing. It shows that community pharmacists are frequently using digital health solutions, such as provincial/territorial drug information systems (DIS), warning and decision support tools, and are accessing lab results online, all of which are contributing to better quality of care, patient safety and productivity. The survey also probed community pharmacists’ perspectives on e-prescribing and it indicates that the pharmacists surveyed feel an e-prescribing solution could lead to fewer medication errors and improved practice productivity and workflows.

These are just a few of the highlights found in the survey results.

Kind regards,
Seema
