Last summer, Infoway shared preliminary research findings on patient perspectives of virtual visits. To establish new evidence in the Canadian context we conducted a three-part qualitative and quantitative research program that included a patient survey, interviews with physicians, and a population based study to understand the characteristics of patients using virtual visits and the physicians in Canada providing this service.
The complete body of results from this research, including the peer-reviewed population-based study was published this month in the open access Journal of Medical Internet Research.
Results from this program of research suggest that this new model of care is responsive to patients’ needs and could offer health system value including the potential to lower primary care costs.
