This course will help you understand when and if to use SNOMED CT and how to go about it. Participants will go through the FHIR description of SNOMED CT and its uses. An initial overview of the practical use of SNOMED CT in FHIR is followed by decision points, issues and next steps.

Topics include: model binding, SNOMED CT references, value set mechanisms, mapping from existing data and SNOMED CT concept codes.

Presented by the Global eHealth Collaborative (GeHCO), a not for profit organization, the seminar will address the following challenges:

  • What are Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources?
  • How does the terminology, specifically, SNOMED CT, interact with FHIR?
  • What are the implementation issues with FHIR and SNOMED CT?
