Thought I would share this resource to bring awareness. From the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse. Authored by Beth Sproule.

Prescription Monitoring Programs in Canada: Best Practice and Program Review.

This includes opioids, psychotropics and any other medications that are associated with misuse or addiction.
Would be interesting to hear from the provinces any updates on integrating Prescription Monitoring Programs into ePrescribing or eDispensing systems, for real time clinical intervention.

The McMaster University, Michael G. DeGroote National Pain Centre has some additional resources on their site including:
  • an opioid tapering tool
  • an opioid switching tool
  • the appendices to the guidelines, including the Values & Preferences Statement of their patient panel (interesting read!)

The 2017 Canadian Guideline for opioid therapy and chronic noncancer pain has been released today. The CMAJ publication (8 pages) can be accessed by clicking on the title.

Here is the media release from the College of Family Physicians of Canada: www.cfpc.ca/2017_canadian_guideline_opioids_chronic_non_cancer_pain/

At this website you will find a great teaching video for consumers and health care professionals on opioid safety.
Also one page handout on Opioids and all the great newsletters and analysis reports that ISMP Canada has conducted over the years.

Check it out: www.ismp-canada.org/opioid_stewardship/

Safe Opioid Prescribing found here: www.cpd.utoronto.ca/opioidprescribing/resources/

There is a fantastic infograph that depicts a sinking individual as the morphine equivalencies are increased.
Other resources such as Opioid Manager for switching and Fact sheets.

This thread is where you can share opioid resources.

Please use the name or title of the resource, as the subject line. Also, avoid using the words "Link to" or "Document".
Please include a short (4 line) description with key words, so that members may use the search function to find the resource.
