Greetings!

This is a gentle reminder of our regularly scheduled meeting next week (Tuesday, September 27 @ Noon Eastern/9 am Pacific) for the Sex and Gender Working Group. If it has been a while since you've last attended (before June 2022), you may find that you need to re-register.

Here’s the link to re-register for meetings: infoway-inforoute.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIkfu2rrDsuHNUpEfHecnvkNG0RpMwQUdNy

Some basic rules (included below) for us for our meetings:

Express disagreement with ideas not personalities
Share airtime
Stay on topic - connect to what others have said
Understand & learn from each other
We are all equal. Leave rank at the door
Listen respectfully especially when you disagree. Acknowledge you have heard the others
Look for common ground
Identify & test assumptions

Agenda
1. Welcome & Land Acknowledgement
2. Purpose of Infoway Sex & Gender Working Group
3. Presentation & Discussion – PS Suite EMR implementation plans (EMR, Telus) by Jim Kavanagh, Cameron Bales, Bassem Youssef & Martin Varady
Specific points they would like feedback on:
• What should be in the list of gender choices in a drop down? We will offer free text for gender, but a good Canadian list for rapid selection will help users and patients as well as give some standardization for later research.
• We are not doing sexual orientation at this time because we decided that does not belong in demographics, but rather in the medical chart. Does this make sense?
• How much privacy would be appropriate for these gender fields? As part of the Patient Demographics they will be visible to all users of the EMR, both clinical and non-clinical.
4. Brief update for commenting on HL7 ballot
5. Schedule review

I look forward to seeing you all next week.

Thanks,
Karen
