  • Messages : 84

Hi Michael, a few clarifications.

New Brunswick's patient summary implementation is for patients to be able to share their summary record with family members or clinicians using a QR code (using Smart Health Links).

BC, AB, ON, NB are the current Patient Summary projects.

US Core will support FHIR R4+R6 for 2026-2027. R6 only 2028+.

Hi all!

Here are the notes from our 2nd FHIR Implementers Community Quarterly Call of 2024:

Community updates:
- Ken Sinn provided an update on the Infoway pan-Canadian specifications, and some high-level impressions from the HL7 WGM.
- New Brunswick has an interesting patient summary project where they can share their patient summaries with other clinicians.
- Infoway is aware of patient summary related work in BC, AB, SK and ON.
- Ken noted the SK work is related but not necessarily using a Patient Summary FHIR IG.

HL7 WGM Meeting:
- Ken noted that there was a solid focus on patient summary, and the Brazil delegation showed they have a patient summary implementation where 26 different regions are sending data to a central solution and from there creating a summary which patients can share with clinicians.
- Lots of interest in Smartlinks and expect there to be a ballot on it in the coming year.
- R6 ballot expected in September. US Core is going to jump from R4 to R6, and by 2026 expecting to be R6 only.
- Lorraine noted there is lots of focus on R6.
- Announced collaboration with OpenEHR and FHIR.
- Movement from BPM+ community into HL7 was approved by the HL7 Board.
- Ron noted that HL7 is in the final stages of piloting the use of their JIRA platform for Int. Affiliates to use.
- HL7 Foundry has lots of reference implementations for FHIR. Could be of interest for us to take work done in Canada and provide it back to the community.
- Lorraine noted it would be good to follow the work going on in conformance and obligations

eHealth Conference:
- Gavin gave a quick overview of the major conference tracks.
- Ken noted that Epic, HAPI demonstrated ability to generate International Patient Summaries from their systems. Meditech has also committed to implement IPS.

CA Baseline
- Michael reported that a key focus is looking at CA-Baseline relationship to the CA CORE + work. Even if they have different purposes we want to ensure they are aligned and not impacting implementers.
- The baseline will likely need to change its cannoncial URL Will cause some minor re-work for some people.

eReferral & SMART North
- Will provide follow-up post on this thread with offline updates from stream leads

What do people want from the Quarterly Calls?
- Agreed that the stream leads reporting is valuable.
- We should add the building blocks group.
- Lorraine suggested we should figure out our scope and mission for this group – or are there things our community needs that we should address here?
- Will include perspectives from stream leads on opportunities for cross-stream Community layer to add further value to their streams in follow-up post mentioned above
- Yaron noted that this forum could be used to engage the community on other topics like gauging adoption of R6, getting input on what people would like to see at FHIR North, etc.
