Hello,
Did you know Ontario Health has the ability to define and implement health information standards and requirements? The Digital Health Information Exchange (DHIEX) is the regulatory framework that gives Ontario Health authority to regulate the exchange of digital health information for consistent and meaningful sharing across the province’s various systems and providers.

What does this mean for Ontario Health?
Ontario Health is responsible for leading the implementation of the regulation, including defining interoperability requirements, determining specifications and actively working with vendors and health information custodians through a program to monitor and ensure compliance.

Why now?
Interoperability is a key enabler for the provincial government’s Digital First for Health Strategy and will provide health information custodians and vendors with foundational specifications. The specifications will consistently capture health care data for direct care, virtual care, patient use, secondary use and data analytics – to enhance the patient experience and their journey through the health system.

Join us for an upcoming webinar
On May 27, hear from Sue Schneider and Andrew Smith, both leaders within the Digital Excellence in Health portfolio, for a one-hour webinar from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. on DHIEX.
This webinar will provide a high-level overview of the changes to some of our existing interoperability standards to align with the regulation. You will also hear about other work Architecture and Standards is doing with a patient summary project that will inform the program and its processes.
