Discussion
• In terms of the eventual release of our first draft of the Canadian Core Profile drafts (once all the streams are done the profiles in their scope), we’ll want to define what we’re looking to get from external audiences
• Suggestion for validation our decision-making is to assemble the first draft of profiles as something of an IPS use case; can see whether our decisions conflict with those made for the relevant IPS FHIR profiles; this can also help show us if we have “all the right lego blocks” for a complete picture of care
• Overall decision is to wait to ‘announce’ / ‘release’ anything for external review until all of the draft profiles from all the streams have been reviewed by their groups; especially given what’s going on in the world, this won’t be on people’s priority list right now
• Should ensure that there is consistency across each profile’s page; many different writing styles, & some reviewers include sections that other reviewers have omitted
• Worth mentioning at the next community call, how will we be responding to the eventual release of FHIR R5
• For down the road, in terms of getting input from jurisdictions across Canada on the Canadian Core FHIR Profiles:
• Would be great to get jurisdictional leaders to tell us if there are differences between their and other provinces’ needs re: certain concepts covered by the Canadian Core (e.g. Patient)
• We could ask them if they have specific needs that aren’t already met in the CA Core; they can either support those elements in a derived, province-specific version of that CA Core Profile, or if the consensus is that enough provinces have those same needs, we can incorporate them into the CA Core (similar to the 80-20 rule for the base FHIR standard)
For Friday's Governance Stream meeting at 2pm EST, we will be updating the group on the overall streams' progresses, & will discuss with the group the overall thinking toward when completed streams of work (i.e. groups of core profiles) are 'released' to broader audiences for review and feedback.
