SNOMED International has just published a March 2020 SNOMED CT International Edition Interim Release as part of the global effort to provide the most up to date terminology in support of the Coronavirus outbreak. This full release contains the COVID-19 concepts including any applicable changes to descriptions, language refset files, adjustments to the ICD-10 map, and related RF2 terminology artefacts. Full details about the contents of the release can be found in the March 2020 Interim International Edition Release Notes.

Do you need to update to the March 2020 SNOMED International Edition Interim Release?
No. The January 2020 release already contained all the COVID-19 concepts, identifiers and concept modelling. The interim release contains all COVID-19 concepts including any applicable changes to descriptions as per the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).

How can you get the latest updated names?
The Canadian Edition of SNOMED CT, to be published on March 31, will be based on the March 2020 SNOMED International Edition Interim Release.

The SNOMED International Browser has been updated to provide access to the March 2020 SNOMED International Edition Interim Release.

How does this impact the SNOMED International July 2020 Release?
SNOMED International will publish two full International packages in July 2020: One reflecting the changes since January 2020 and one reflecting the changes since March 2020.

The appropriate package will need to be implemented.
