BACKGROUND:
The Digital Health Drug Repository (DHDR) data is a key element of the EHR and represents approximately 70 per cent of the total dispensed medications in Ontario. It will improve patient care by giving authorized clinicians secure electronic access to a patient's drug information, allowing more time for diagnosis, treatment and communication with patients, and improving patient outcomes by decreasing the risk of adverse drug events.
The DHDR consists of:
• A database of drug dispensations, sourced from Ontario Drugs Benefit (ODB) pharmaceutical and professional service claims data, and from the Narcotics Monitoring System (NMS).
• Privacy consent enforcement using historical ODB consent directives and Publish & Subscribe (PubSub) integration with eHealth Ontario’s Consent Management Technology Asset (CMTA).
The DHDR Release 2 specification includes:
• DHDR FHIR Implementation Guide
o Guidance for implementations supporting FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) messages (Query, Override)
o Sample messages
• Terminology (Vocabulary) Worksheet
