Just wanted to highlight this year’s Infoway Partnership Conference features a dedicated Medication Safety stream, along with consumer health and interoperability streams.

These sessions are on Day 2 of the conference (November 17th), don’t miss them - there’s only a few weeks left to register!

I'll be there, and it will be a great opportunity to meet and network with members of our Medication Management community, as well as leaders in the medication management field.

Here are some details of the sessions:

Day 2: Medication Safety Sessions, November 17th

When Treatments Harm: Developing Adverse Drug Event Reporting to Improve Patient Safety
Presenter: Dr. Corinne Hohl, Emergency Room Physician, Vancouver General Hospital
Adverse drug events, untreated, and harmful events associated with medications are a leading cause of emergency department visits and hospitalizations, and are often preventable. This talk will discuss why a new approach to documenting adverse drug events is needed, and how this could transform medication management and improve patient safety.

Promoting Medication Safety Through Standards and Interoperability
Presenter: Louise Travill, Operational Systems Manager, Health Products and Food Branch, Health Canada
The Regulatory Transparency and Openness Framework was launched to improve access to timely, useful and relevant health and safety information. This presentation will review recent open data initiatives undertaken by Health Canada.

Medication Safety in Retail Pharmacies: Lessons Learned from a Pilot Study
Presenter: Dr. Certina Ho, Project Lead, ISMP & Canada Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Waterloo
Hear lessons learned from a multi-incident analysis conducted by ISMP Canada on an eight-month provincial pilot project that will be relevant and applicable to community pharmacy practitioners in other provinces of Canada. It is designed for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who would like to have an understanding of how continuous quality improvement can be achieved through medication incident reporting and analysis.
