LOINC has new prerelease Special Use terms related to Hantavirus and Ebolavirus testing in response to urgent and emergent public health needs.

These Special Use terms have undergone LOINC’s standard QA terminology review process and are intended to support rapid implementation requirements ahead of inclusion in an official LOINC release. Please note that downstream systems and implementations may not yet be prepared to fully support prerelease codes until formally published.

The newly added terms include concepts related to:

• New World Hantavirus RNA detection
• Old World and New World Hantavirus IgG/IgM antibodies
• Ebolavirus Bundibugyo and Tai Forest virus detection
• RT-PCR, probe detection, and immunoassay-based testing
