SNOMED International has engaged interested member countries in a requirements-gathering exercise that will support development of a new mapping tool. As the National Release Centre and Member Forum representative, we wish to have Canadian organizational, vendor and jurisdictional representatives that are familiar with terminology and classification mapping tool requirements, to provide their use case requirements. Note that there is a tight timeline to fill the survey (link provided below). If you know someone else that might be interested in providing their requirements, please forward this message to the appropriate person.
Here is the SNOMED International
Mapping Tooling User Group - Requirements gathering
presentation which includes information on this requirement gathering.
Here is the link to the survey:

The survey tries to collect information on purpose of the map, map contents (code systems, domain, size, language, type, etc.), users involved, current tools and practices, and whether or not maps are regularly updated or not. Further guidance is available in attached slide deck.
Some key things to note:
1. Short summary use cases for maps from other code systems TO SNOMED CT are best. Examples include:
- To support interoperability and data integration
- To enable data analytics over legacy data
- To map local drug codes to a SNOMED CT drug extension
- Enable vendors using proprietary codes to start adopting SNOMED CT
2. Tight turnaround: please fill the survey by February 22nd, 2021
3. Please let us know if you have filled it the survey, by sending a quick email to

The next Mapping Tooling User Group (MTUG) meeting is scheduled for February 23, 2021 at 10 UTC (2am PT/ 5am ET). If we get enough interest, we can ask for a CA-specific meeting at a more reasonable time.
Thank you!
