October 15, 2025 – Montréal, QC — Congratulations to Anil Patel, recipient of the 2025 LOINC Award for Distinguished Contributions, presented at this year’s LOINC Conference in Montréal.

The LOINC Award for Distinguished Contributions honours an individual who has made sustained and enduring contributions that advance health data interoperability with LOINC. Anil’s recognition reflects more than two decades of leadership, collaboration, and innovation in healthcare terminology — work that continues to improve how clinical information is shared and understood across Canada and beyond.

A respected leader in digital health, Anil has been a key contributor to the LOINC Laboratory Committee, LOINC Document Ontology Committee, and UCUM Advisory Group, providing valuable insight on the real-world impact of terminology changes on implementations.

Anil’s journey began as a Laboratory Technologist at the Hospital for Sick Children, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical diagnostics and data quality. His engagement with LOINC started later at the Electronic Child Health Network (eCHN) within eHealth Ontario, where he played a key role in introducing LOINC and SNOMED CT standards across laboratory medicine, transcription, and diagnostic imaging. Since then, he has led major national terminology initiatives and served as a principal expert guiding clinicians, vendors, and implementers in advancing interoperability.

At Canada Health Infoway (Infoway), Anil has represented Canada at international LOINC meetings and made significant contributions, including supporting the maintenance of pCLOCD, the Canadian adaptation of LOINC, and leading the Infoway’s Health Terminologies Community. Most recently, he played a key role in the deployment of Canada’s new FHIR Terminology Server, a critical resource that will strengthen national interoperability.

Anil’s dedication to collaboration and his ability to bridge technical and clinical perspectives have made him an invaluable contributor to Canada’s digital health ecosystem. His leadership in expanding the use of LOINC Document Ontology codes across Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec marks an important step toward the pan-Canadian standardization of clinical documents.

Infoway and the Health Terminologies community extend  heartfelt congratulations to Anil on this well-deserved honour and thank him for his outstanding contributions and service to advancing health data interoperability through LOINC — in Canada and around the world.
