We now begin a new era for ePrescribing that is a natural evolution in Canada’s approach and builds on the capabilities and readiness established through the PrescribeIT® Program. By moving away from a centralized pan-Canadian service, provinces, territories, vendors and retailers will have greater flexibility to implement solutions aligned with local priorities, needs and timelines and will offer greater certainty for future interoperability and connectivity.

To support this transition, we are convening an ePrescribing Standards Working Group, and we invite you to participate.

Why this working group matters

This working group will play a central role in shaping how ePrescribing evolves in Canada.

Together, participants will:

· Collaboratively develop and refine an open ePrescribing standard, starting from an existing FHIR-based specification
· Help define core, pan‑Canadian functionality, while identifying where context‑specific requirements are needed
· Ensure the standard supports real‑world clinical workflows, vendor innovation, and patient‑centred care
· Contribute to a transparent, governed standards development process, including engagement, governance, and formal balloting

This work will help ensure a fast and practical path to market readiness while enabling long‑term interoperability and continuous improvement.

Who should participate

We welcome participation from all interested stakeholders, including but not limited to:

· Jurisdictions
· Clinicians and clinical groups
· Electronic medical record, hospital information system and pharmacy system vendors, and other Health IT vendors
· Retail pharmacy and other healthcare organizations
· Patients, professional associations, and colleges
· Policy, regulatory, and digital health experts

Your perspectives and experience are valued.

Join us

This working group is open to all interested parties, so feel free to pass this invitation to others who may be interested.
