LOINC has announced the addition of new prerelease Special Use terms related to Hantavirus and Ebolavirus testing in response to urgent and emergent public health needs.

These Special Use terms have undergone LOINC’s standard QA terminology process and are intended to support rapid implementation needs ahead of an official release publication. Please note that downstream systems and implementers may not yet be prepared to fully support prerelease codes until they are included in a formal LOINC release.

The newly added terms include concepts related to:
  • New World Hantavirus RNA detection
  • Old World and New World Hantavirus IgG/IgM antibodies
  • Old World and New World Hantavirus IgG/IgM antibodies
  • Ebolavirus Bundibugyo and Tai Forest virus detection
  • RT-PCR, probe detection, and immunoassay-based testing

For the complete and current list of prerelease Special Use terms, please refer to the LOINC prerelease page .
