Notice of Retirement – Pan-Canadian Primary Health Care EMR Minimum Data Set

Hello all,

As shared at this week's HTC meeting, as part of ongoing efforts to align pan-Canadian health data standards, CIHI is planning to retire the Pan-Canadian Primary Health Care EMR Minimum Data Set and some associated value sets by April 1, 2026 (please refer to the list below).

This decision follows the development of the Pan-Canadian Health Data Content Framework (PCHDCF), which supersedes the previous Primary Health Care EMR Minimum Data Set. The value sets identified for retirement have not been maintained and are not recommended for use. Data standards for primary health care remain an important priority and are now represented in the Pan-Canadian Health Data Content Framework which includes updated value sets to support pan-Canadian health data interoperability.

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or require further clarification regarding this retirement plan. If you are using the value sets proposed for retirement please contact us for further support. We welcome your feedback and are available to discuss any considerations you may have.
